14th Intergovernmental Meeting of the Mediterranean Diet Network Held in Tavira

On November 29, 2024, representatives from the seven UNESCO Emblematic Communities of the Mediterranean Diet convened for the 14th Intergovernmental Meeting in Tavira, Portugal. The hybrid event brought together delegates from Agros (Cyprus), Brač and Hvar (Croatia), Soria (Spain), Koroni (Greece), Pollica (Italy), Chefchaouen (Morocco), and Tavira (Portugal) to discuss collaborative efforts in safeguarding this UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage.

Hosted by the Mayor of Tavira, Ana Paula Martins, the meeting underscored Tavira’s pivotal role in promoting the Mediterranean Diet through innovative projects, including the Mediterranean Diet Fair and educational initiatives targeting biodiversity and sustainable practices.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the network’s commitment to preserving the Mediterranean Diet through research, education, and cross-regional collaboration. Future goals include expanding educational resources, leveraging EU funding, and strengthening the Mediterranean Diet’s role in sustainable tourism.

The presidency of the Mediterranean Diet Network for the year 2025 was officially handed over to Morocco, marking a new chapter in the collaborative efforts of the Emblematic Communities.
