Mediterranean Vegetable Garden in the 2nd Primary of Hora

In the beginning of March 2022, pupils from the 2nd Primary School of Hora (Municipality of Pylos-Nestor), will start growing vegetables as a teaching resource so as to make them understand where their food originally comes from.

Food growing can teach children about soil, nutrition, science, and life cycles of the vegetables and the eusocial species attracted to the garden. A vegetable plot can raise children’s awareness of the seasonal nature and the variety of food. In addition, a food growing project should be part of a school’s development plan, with staff, pupils, parents, and even local residents involved.

Through this project, all young protagonists will gain life skills, be engaged in active volunteerism, and will have a wider knowledge about natural resources and conservation practices.
