March 20 - March 21

The XIV edition of the International Congress Mediterranean Diet: A look into the Future, will highlight the reasons for this reality; especially the relevance of the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid that was created in 2010, with the endorsement of different scientific societies. Moreover, the conclusions of this event will lead to the updating of the frequencies and arrangement of food according to current scientific criteria; to continue to promote adherence to the Mediterranean Diet.
The president of the congress and scientific coordinator of Paralelo 40 – Observatory of the Mediterranean Diet, Dr. Ramon Estruch highlights the importance of this forum, since it is “important to value and demonstrate the benefits of the Mediterranean diet on health, both physical and mental, and to present the latest scientific evidence on the prevention of all types of chronic cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, neurodegenerative or cancerous diseases. It is essential to maintain this dietary pattern, especially among young people”.
An international congress that will bring together, more than 30 professionals. The participation of the prestigious Dr. Walter Willet, Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, will highlight the most pressing issues for a sustainable food system and how to cope with them. Dr Willet, a world authority on food and public health, states that “the world is facing a health crisis due to rising rates of obesity and diabetes, and the consequences will accumulate over the coming decades. At the same time, climate change is accelerating and is already having devastating effects. These changes will undermine the ability to produce healthy and adequate food for the world’s growing population”. Therefore, he calls for the need to transition from fossil fuels to green energy, and the adoption of largely plant-based diets must play an important role, as it would have significant benefits for human and planetary health.
