The Dr. Ruy D\u2019Andrade Primary and Secondary School<\/a> (EB 2,3), in Entrocamento, Santar\u00e9m District, which forms part of the West and Tagus Valley region, hosted the first awareness-raising event organised by the Portuguese National CAP Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This first event, aimed at Year 6 pupils, took place on 27 April and focused on the seasonality of food within the context of the Mediterranean Diet, highlighting the importance of agricultural activity and the work of farmers in our daily lives<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session began with an interactive presentation explaining the concept of seasonality, highlighting the importance of consuming food in line with its natural growing season. Various examples of fruits and vegetables typical of different seasons were discussed, helping pupils understand that food grows in tune with nature and that each requires specific conditions, such as sunlight, temperature and water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the theoretical component, the activity included moments of active participation, encouraging dialogue and the sharing of knowledge among the pupils. By discussing the Mediterranean diet and the role of the farmer, the link between food production, the environment and the adoption of more sustainable consumption habits was reinforced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most dynamic moments of the session was an educational game, in which the pupils, organised into groups, were challenged to match different fruits and vegetables to their respective seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fun activity allowed them to consolidate the knowledge they had acquired in a practical and enjoyable way, promoting teamwork and critical thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event proved to be very well attended and engaging, with the pupils showing great interest and enthusiasm throughout the session. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initiatives such as this play a fundamental role in education for healthy and sustainable eating, contributing to the development of citizenswho are more aware and informed about the origin of food, the importance of making responsible food choices, increased awareness of their carbon footprint as consumers, and support for local producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
